Head of Engineering and Operations
Darren Dasburg is head of engineering and field operations for Academy Solar, a Chapel Hill, N.C.-based firm that offers residential and commercial solar energy system designs and installations with a focus on the Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham and Charlotte markets.
As head of engineering, Darren supervises design and field operations for Academy Solar and its target customers. He is an expert in building systems, construction and instrumentation systems. Darren is the proud owner of Academy Solar’s first work, as he enjoys more than 4 kilowatts from his installed solar energy system, which results in 1.4 times more power in kilowatt hours than conventional electrical energy.
Along with fellow Academy Solar partner Tom Sylvester, Darren is a principal (president of consumer products division) in Cerventis LLC, an electronics design and manufacturing company based near Research Triangle Park. Darren and Tom launched Cerventis in 2006.
Since 2005, Darren has been engaged with his startup firm, Cinteger of Cary, N.C., where he assists corporate clients with corporate engineering aspects from commercial real estate to project management and operations management. He is an expert in contract execution and administration and enjoys interfacing with a range of customers from homeowners to CEOs.
Darren’s other professional experience includes 10 years with Progress Energy as vice president of real estate and 15 years with GlaxoSmithKlein as vice president of corporate engineering. He has earned degrees in mechanical engineering from Colorado State University at Fort Collins, where he focused on energy conversion, and a Master of Business Administration from Duke University in Durham.
Active in civic duties, Darren serves on the board of directors of Tammy Lynn Center for Childhood Disabilities in Raleigh and is a former board chair of the NCSU Industrial Extension Service. He is a member of the Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church of Cary, where he is an active participant in its Family Ties program.
A native of Chicago, Darren resides in Cary with his wife and two boys.
